Fireworks Weekend

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July this year. John and I spent the weekend watching fireworks from across city. On Friday we went to our friends Brad and Alisha's house for a BBQ. Alisha's whole family was there and we had a good time playing this new game called Apples to Apples. It is really fun and really easy for all age groups and group sizes. I highly recommend it. Brad and Alisha live behind a golf course so we grabbed our lawn chairs and headed out into the night. We couldn't believe our luck when the fireworks started and they were just a few hundred yards away. We definitely had a front row seat.

After the show we headed back to their house to shoot off our own fireworks. Colorado is definitely not a fun state for fireworks. They do not allow anything that leaves the ground or shoots things out of it. It's basically just sparklers and tanks. I remember when I was little we used to go up to my Grandad's house in Cameron, MO and shoot off all kinds of fireworks in his backyard. Mack and dad would have a grand finale show at the end and it would have some pretty good fireworks in it! Now we can't even shoot off bottle rockets.

The view before the fireworks

On Saturday John and I drove up to Nederland, CO which is where John is from. Think Baldwin City, KS minus 1,000+ people. We have gone to Ned for the last three years and we were excited to go again. Each year we have sat in a different and unique spot and this time was no different. We hiked a small ways to a spot right next to the lake with the rocks hang out. There were a bunch of people there already so we grabbed the blanket and got set. You'll notice that John and I are both bunded up like it is winter and that is because is was! Nederland is 10,000 feet above sea level and another 10 to 20 degrees below the current temperature in Boulder. We could actually see our breaths as we walked back to the car.
